ALFRED LATWAITIS, 73

Services for Alfred Latwaitis, Sr., 73, who died at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair December 30, 1991, at 2 p.m. Friday, January 3 at Campbell Funeral Home with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Alfred J. Latwaitis, Sr. was born January 29, 1918 at Ozone Park, New York to John and Agata Balnis Latwaitis. He attended North Adams High School in Queens, New York.

On March 1, 1941 he married Helen Aldrich in Brooklyn, New York. They resided in New York until 1967.

In 1968, they moved to rural Blair where he resided at the time of his death.

He was president and founder of DeSoto Engineering, Inc., now located in Blair. He was a certified mechanical engineer. He developed the first apprenticeship program for Swiss Automatic machinists in the state of Nebraska.

He was responsible for several patents in the machine tool industry. He most recently completed development of a revolutionary radioactive seed injector for the medical industry, that is currently in the process of being patented.

He was an airplane enthusiast and an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He was in the process of building his own KR – 2 airplane.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Al and Arlene Latwaitis, Jr., Blair; and Robert and Carolyn Latwaitis, Bohemia, New York; a daughter and son-in-law, Dee and Mike Flynn, Boelus, Nebraska; a daughter, Donna Latwaitis of Blair; grandchildren, Ted and his wife, Candy Latwaitis; Holly and her husband Curtis Storm; Robert Latwaitis; Christopher Latwaitis; Many Flynn; Michael Flynn and Kaitlin Flynn. He is also survived by one brother, Ernest Latwaitis of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
