MRS. WALTER AKESON (FORMER YVONNE COOK) DIED IN COLORADO

Mrs. Walter R. Akeson, the former Yvonne Cook of Arlington, died in the Longmont United Hospital in Longmont, Colorado on September 11th following an illness of three years.

She was born on August 29, 1934 at Arlington, Nebraska. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Cook. Her father passed away on July 3rd, 1974. In her early years she was very active in 4-H work, and after graduating from the Arlington High School she attended and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She received her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1965.

On June 14th, 1959 she was married in Arlington to Dr. Walter R. Akeson. They were the parents of three sons.

Yvonne worked as a bateriologist for the Knolle Dairies of Texas and Souther Seal Test Dairies of Virginia. She also taught school at Mead, Nebraska and was an instructor in textiles at the University of Nebraska from 1966-67. Following her graduate studies, she pioneered research in bacteriological studies on textiles at the University of Wisconsin. In 1969, she went to Longmont, Colorado with her family.

She was a member of the Long's Peak Chapter of the D.A.R.; Sigman Delta Epsilon, National Honorary Science Fraternity; Phi Gamma Delta, Sorority for graduate women; Omicron Nu, the National Honor Society in Home Economics. She was a loyal and dedicated Christian woman, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Longmont.

Survivors are her husband, Dr. Walter R. Akeson, three sons: Curtis, Kenneth, and Kelvin, all of Longmont, and her mother, Mrs. Curtis Cook of Arlington.

Funeral services were held in Longmont, September 13th. The Rev. Barry Kimbrough officiated. Graveside services were at the Arlington Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 14th.

Pallbearers were: Gerald Fagerquist, Lloyd Vogt, Orvin Scheer, Ronald Hilgenkamp all of Arlington, Garwood Vavak and Wm. Vavak of Mead.
