HERMAN PIONEER TAKEN IN DEATH

Charles Laughlin, a pioneer resident of the Herman area died at the Tekamah Senior Citizens Home May 11th at the age of 93 years, 6 months.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Herman on Saturday, May 14. The Rev. Thomas Vaughn officiated.

Burial was in the Herman Cemetery. Acting pallbearers were Mack Cameron, Ted Iverson, Walter Kruse, John Skinner, Arnold Rogert and Howard Widener.

Charles Robert Laughlin was born in Dearborn County, Aurora, Ind., Nov. 11, 1867. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Laughlin.

Mr. Laughlin was the eldest of a family of nine children, all of whom preceded him in death.

Coming to Nebraska in a covered wagon with his parents when he was eight years old, Mr. Laughlin had made his home in the Herman area since that time. He lived for 52 years on a farm west of Herman with his family. Following the death of his wife, Lizzie, in 1956, he made his home with a son Robert until a year ago, when he entered the Senior Citizens Home in Tekamah.

Survivors include his sons, Robert and Howard of Herman; daughters, Miss Ethel Laughlin of Bellevue and Miss Beulah Laughlin of Omaha; daughter-in-law, Margaret Laughlin; and 3 grandchildren, Patty, Ada Jane and Tom Laughlin, all of Herman. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

C. R. LAUGHLIN, 98, OF HERMAN, DIED WEDNESDAY

Funeral services for Charles Robert Laughlin, 98 years of age, of Herman, were held Saturday at the Herman Baptist Church, the Rev. Thomas Vaughn officiating with interment in Herman Cemetery.

Mr. Laughlin died Wednesday at the Senior Citizens Home in Tekamah, where he has resided the past year.

Mr. Laughlin in survived by a son, Robert, of Herman; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Margaret Laughlin of Herman; daughters, Miss Ethel Laughlin of Bellevue and Miss Beulah Laughlin of Omaha, and three grandchildren.

Mr. Laughlin was born Nov. 11, 1867 at Aurora, Indiana. When he was eight years of age he came to Nebraska with his parents in a covered wagon. They first resided on the farm now owned by Wayne Loftis, later moving to a farm west of Herman and 52 years ago to the present farm home west of Herman, where he lived until a year ago. His wife, Lizzie, died in 1956.

The Bendorf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
