The Rev. Leo D. Zillig, 81

Former Arlington pastor, the Rev. Leo D. Zillig, 81, of Seward, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008.

His funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 23, at Friedens United Church of Christ in Seward. Interment with military honors was in the Seward Cemetery.

Leo D. Zillig was born July 21, 1926, on the family farm between Seward and Garland to William and Nellie (Francies) Zillig.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, and served during World War II.

Rev. Zillig served in full-time Christian ministry for 28 years and two months, serving seven parishes during that time. Those parishes included Arlington, Tecumseh, Plainview, Brunswick, Franklin and Riverton. He served as pastor of the Arlington Community Church from 1965-1972.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Zillig, of Seward; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Janet Zillig of Lincoln; daughters and son-in-law, Linda of Mason City, Iowa, and Marcia and Henry Miller of Crofton; three grandsons; two granddaughters; sisters, Erma Flowerday and Mabel Lyon, both of Seward; brother and sister-in-law, Mervin and Myrna Zillig of Seward; and Many nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to Friedens United Church of Christ – Seward or the Seward Public Library.
