Kin of Blair Residents Dies In Norfolk

Services for Fred E. Zobel, 90, a resident of Nebraska Veterans Home, Norfolk, were conducted Saturday, March 17, at Christ Lutheran Church, Norfolk, with the Rev. Walter Buss officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Norfolk.

Soloist was Mr. Darcy Ahlman with Mrs. Karen Cornett as organist. Pallbearers were Terrell and Mical Zobel, Gerald and Jon Timperley, Miles Jenkinson and Dean Ellis.

Mr. Zobel suffered a stroke on March 5 and died in a Norfolk Hospital March 14.

He was born in West Point November 12, 1893, the son of William and Helena (Eckstein) Zobel. He married Ella Kuhl December 22, 1920 at Bazile Mills. She died February 27, 1976.

He served with Company F. Eighth Ammunition Train, during World War I. After the war he returned briefly to Bloomfield, moving in 1920 to Creighton. He farmed in the Osmond, Creighton and Plainview areas until 1945, when he moved to Norfolk where he operated a trucking service. In May 1976 he moved to Blair where he resided with his daughter and family until returning to Norfolk to the Veterans Home in March, 1983.

Survivors include three sons, Glenn of Norfolk, Wayne of South Sioux City and Gordon of Forsyth, Missouri; one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Elaine) Ellis of Blair. Nine grandchildren including Beth Timperley and Darci and Darin Ellis of Blair; 18 great-grandchildren including Tom stationed in England, Jon, Tammy and Angie Timperley of Blair; one sister, Mrs. Elsie Goranson of West Point.

Besides his wife, Mr. Zobel was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.
