John Zolck, 89

John Zolck, 89, of Blair, died Jan. 11, 2007, in Blair.

A wake service was held Sunday, Jan. 14, at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Jan. 15, at St. Patrick’s Church in Neola. Interment was in the cemetery in Neola, with military rites by the American Legion.

John Zolck was born April 14, 1917, in Harrison County, Iowa, to John Sr. and Anna (Urbahns) Zolck.

He graduated from Minden High School and served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945.

In May 1941, he married Rita Ring at St. Patrick’s Church in Neola.

Mr. Zolck worked for Gate City Steel for 10 years, then for Vickers as a machinist.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Neola, American Legion Post No. 2 for 62 years, the VFS and 40s Dance Club.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Gary Boan of Milford, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Nancy Zolck of Arlington; very special friend, Louise Mencke of Blair; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, in 1991; sisters, Ella Hoeppner, Elsie Allen, Edna and Edith Zolck, and brother, Albert Zolck.

Wake service Sunday 6:30 pm at funeral home. Funeral Mass Monday 1 am St. Patricks Church, Neola, IA. Interment Neola, IA. Military rites by Am. Legion. Luncheon to be served following at church hall.
