Zuerlein – Evelyn M. (Wert), age 86, died July 28, 2005, at her home in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was born October 28, 1918, in Montevideo, Minnesota, the daughter of Roscoe Oscar Wert and Katherine Christina Schmidt. She was raised on a farm in Washington County and in Missouri.

In 1937 she married Max Saltzman. They later divorced and in 1963 she married Francis Waldean (Dean) Zuerlein in David City, Nebraska. They resided in David City and Craig for about two years before moving to Arkansas in 1965. She was a former cosmetologist.

Evelyn’s father, Roscoe Wert, was born in 1881 near Blair. He was the son of Richard Wert and Laura Belle Greenlee. They came to Nebraska from Belmont County, Ohio.

Katherine Schmidt was the daughter of Claus Schmidt and Lucy Bowler. Claus was born in Germany in 1868 and Lucy was born in Onawa, Iowa, in 1876.

She is survived by a daughter, Madlynn Kaya Gordenier and her husband Steve, and two granddaughters, Erin and Katie Gordenier, all of Portland, Oregon.

Cremation was by Moore’s Chapel in Fayetteville. She was interred with Dean at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville. Memorials may be made to the Burt County Historical Society, PO Box 125, Tekamah, NE, 68061-0125.
