JOAN L. WEST, 69

Memorial services for Joan L. West, 69, of Grand Island, were held Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Omaha. A private interment was conducted Thursday at the Herman Cemetery. Memorial services are also being held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at First United Methodist Church in Grand Island. Mrs. West died Monday, Sept. 17, in Omaha, surrounded by her family.

Joan L. West was born Feb. 18, 1932 in Blair to Clarence and Tena (Petersen) Wachter. She attended Thone Grade School and graduated from Herman High School in 1949. She also attended Midland Lutheran College.

On June 17, 1951, she married Jack West in Herman. They lived in Washington D.C. during his military service and moved back to Nebraska in 1955. They lived in Herman and Omaha prior to moving to Grand Island in 1969.

Mrs. West was a sales auditor at Miller & Payne and Dillard’s in Grand Island for more than 10 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island, where she was active in many functions in the church. She enjoyed baking and making crafts, but her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; daughter and son-in-law, Sherilyn and Tim Enck of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Denise West of Omaha; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marilyn Claborn of Omaha.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jack Wachter.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church in Grand Island, University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, or the American Cancer Society.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
