Ruth H. Jensen Weaver, 86

Funeral services for Ruth Hansine Jensen Weaver, 86, of Blair, were held Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Herman Legion Hall with interment in the Herman Cemetery. Mrs. Weaver died Friday, May 23, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Ruth Hansine Jensen Weaver was born June 25, 1916, in rural Orum to John X. and Alma B. (Hansen) Hansen.

Upon her graduation from Herman High school in 1934, she attended Dana College for one year. She taught the next five years in the Hewett and Fontanelle Schools in Washington County.

She married John Jensen on June 5, 1940, and took a 17-year leave of absence to raise her five children. She returned to teaching in 1957, and taught at Nashville, Glendale, Spiker, Summers and Wranch Schools.

Following the death of her husband, John, in 1967, she married Fred Weaver in 1971.

Upon completion of 16 years of summer school and night courses, she was awarded her Bachelor of Arts degree from Dana College in 1972. After receiving her degree, she taught at District 77 and 89 schools in Holt County in the Sandhills. She retired in 1981 after serving Nebraska’s rural schools for 29 years. She received an award from the Boyd County Teacher’s Association commemorating those years of service to the teaching profession.

Mr. Weaver was a member of the Herman Community Church, Circle II and III, and the Washington County and Boyd County Teacher’s Association.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Fred Heinssen of Blair, Marie Rager of Tekamah, Marian and Jim McClusky of Kansas City, Mo., and Valerie and Terry Peterson of Herman; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Diane Jensen of Bennington; stepdaughter, Margie Walker of Wes Des Moines, Iowa; brother, Dale Hansen of Herman; 11 grand-children; 11 great-grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bondo and Allan, and an infant sister, Mary.

Memorials are suggested to the Herman Fire and Rescue Squad.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
