#1 Raymond Weckmuller

Dr. Raymond J. Weckmuller, chairman of the division of psychology and education at Dana College, died at his home in Blair on October 8, 1986, at the age of 58. Services were held Saturday, October 11, at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Rev. Carl Schattauer, Jr., officiated and burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Dr. Weckmuller was born in Troy, New York, on December 16, 1927. He graduated from high school there in 1945 and then served for two years with the U.S. Army. He enrolled as a student at Dana College in 1947 and after attending college for two years, was recalled into the Army. He returned to graduate from Dana in 1952. Later he received his master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and his doctorate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

He accepted an appointment to the faculty of Blair High School in 1952 and served there until 1955 when he was named principal of Mount View Elementary School in Omaha. In 1958 he became chairman of the department of education at Dana College and continued as a member of the Dana faculty until the time of his death.

Throughout his lifetime, Dr. Weckmuller was active in a variety of professional, community and church related activities. He was a member and past president of the Nebraska Council on Teacher Education, chairman of the Nebraska College Approval Committee as appointed by the State School Board, member and past president of the Board of Educational Service Unit 3 and chairman of the Dana College Faculty Senate. From 1960 until 1986 he served as the chief institutional representative for Dana College to the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Blair and a former member of the board of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Among his many professional accomplishments at Dana, Dr. Weckmuller was instrumental in securing and maintaining accreditation of the college’s teacher education program through the National Council for the accreditation of Teacher Education. In 1982 he was honored by the students of Dana College when he was name Professor of the Year.

Dr. Weckmuller is survived by his mother, Mrs. Vita Weckmuller of Troy, New York; one sister, Marion Truland of Troy, New York; his wife, Mary of Blair; three daughters, Ann McPhillips, Lyn Pahls and Carol Weckmuller, all of Omaha; one son, Paul of Anchorage, Alaska and one grandchild.

Memorial funds in Dr. Weckmuller’s name have been established at Dana College and Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Pallbearers included: Calvin Jorgensen, Bernard Matthies, Keith Larsen, James Olsen, Philip Larsen and Larrie Stone.

Campbell Funeral Home of Blair was in charge of arrangements.

Services for Ray Weckmuller, 58, of Blair, who died October 8, 1986, at the Blair Memorial Community Hospital, will be held Saturday, October 11, 10 a.m., at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Rev. Carl Schattauer will officiate.
