Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, February 15, for Catherine Uhing at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah. She was a long-time Burt County resident.

Burial services were held at St. Michael’s Cemetery at West Point, Nebraska. Rev. John Michalak, Rev. Daniel Galas and Rev. Wm. J. Borer officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were her eight grandsons, Roland, Richard, Michael and Jay Uhing, Randy Petersen, Larry Barr, Norman Von Seggern and Robert Hare.

Mrs. Catherine Uhing, daughter of the late Henry and Mary Wortman, was born on a farm near West Point on August 4, 1893. She passed away at Mercy Care Center in Omaha, February 12, 1980, at the age of 86 years, 6 months, and 8 days.

Catherine was united in marriage to Carl Uhing at Brunswick, Nebraska, October 27, 1914. She and her husband spent their entire married life on the farm. After her husband, Carl Uhing, passed away September 23, 1950? she remained on the farm with her son John until her health began to fail her.

Catherine entered Haven House Nursing Home in January 1977 after her health became so poorly, she required around the clock care. Previous to that she spent some time with her daughter, the Merle Barr family and Mrs. James Hare and her family. She spent two years with the Jack Petersen family of Blair before entering the home.

Catherine enjoyed her many visits with her family and home town friends. She was a hard worker, a loving and kind mother. She had a smile for all who knew her, never holding a grudge. She was the mother of eleven children. She especially loved children and some of her happiest moments were when she was visited or was remembered by the younger generation. She was a good Christian and never complained, no matter how ill she was.

Catherine’s health steadily worsened and in July of 1979 she entered Mercy Care Center, where she was a patient in Skilled Nursing until her death. She had a long and lengthy illness.

She is survived by nine children, Eugene, Bernard and John of Tekamah, Herbert and Donald of Craig, Mrs. Olivia Hare of Bolchow, Missouri, Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Von Seggern of Waterloo, Nebraska, Mrs. Merle (Helen) Barr of Omaha and Mrs. Jack (Agnes) Petersen of Blair. One sister, Mrs. Marie Thornish of Osceola, Nebraska; 30 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Carl Uhing; two sons, Arthur and Carl, Jr.; two sisters and two brothers. A son-in-law James Hare and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Arthur (Arla) Uhing also preceded her in death.
