John L. Uhing, 79

John L. Uhing, 79, died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

A funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in West Point.

Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah, with a 7 p.m. prayer vigil. Visitation will also be held at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to services.

John Lenard Uhing was born Feb. 10, 1929, in rural West Point to Carl and Catherine (Wortman) Uhing.

He was a life-long farmer, and was always interested in what crops were planted and he loved the cow herd. He also loved his family and spending time with his great nieces and nephews. He loved to visit and could always be seen wearing his John Deere cap.

Mr. Uhing was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah.

He is survived by his brothers and sister-in-law, Bernard Uhing of Tekamah, Donald and Shirley Uhing of Uehling; sisters and brother-in-law, Agnes Petersen of Blair, Helen and Merle Barr of Rockport, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur, Eugene, Herbert and Carl; and sisters, Dorothy Von Seggern and Olivia Hare.
