John F. Weis, 76

Hutchison resident John F. Weis, 76, formerly of Redwood Falls, Minn., died Dec. 19, 2000, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneaspolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 22, 2000, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Interment was at St. Catherine’s Catholic Cemetery.

John Francis Weis was born Dec. 18, 1924, in Redwood Falls to Paul and Lucretia (Gallery) Weis. He resided with his family in Redwood Falls and graduated from Redwood Falls High School in 1941.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942, where he served on the USS Kasaan Bay aircraft carrier. He served in both Pacific and European theaters of war.

After discharge in 1946, he attended St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minn. On Jan. 13, 1951, he married Shirley Meyer in Redwood Falls. He worked in several sales positions, retiring in 1987.

He entered Burns Manor Nursing Home in December of 1995.

He is survived by his children, daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and David Kaslon of Blair, and Theresa and Gordon Rogers of Mankato, Minn., son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Debra Weis of Peru, Ill., son, Paul Weis of New Ulm, Minn., daughter, Penelope Lieder of Hutchinson, seven grandchildren, and sisters, Delores Frantz of Springfield, and his twin sister, Janet Henrich of Edina, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Mike Frantz.

Nelson Funeral Service in Redwood Falls, Minn., was in charge of arrangements.
