Robert D. Welchert, 81, of Fort Calhoun, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, in Fort Calhoun.

A funeral Mass was held Monday, Dec. 1, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Interment was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Robert Dennis Welchert was born Jan. 30, 1927, in Omaha to Frank Anton and Claire Helen (Plastow) Welchert.

His youth was spent gardening and doing carpentry and, in later years, he returned to gardening in the Fort Calhoun area.

He is survived by his wife, Donna (Becker) Welchert; sons and daughters-in-law, Willie and Sue, Bob and Pat, Jim, Gene and Kathy, Larry and Barb, Rick and Cathy, John and Deb, Jerry and Deb, Royce, Frank and Diane, Donald and Jean, Leo and Shelly, Paul, Ted and Sunshine; daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Jim Kelly, Jeanne and Ken Knight, Linda and Mike; 42 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathryn O’Keefe and Margaret and John Manson; sister-in-law, Bonnie Welchert.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Timothy; and a brother, Ray.

Memorials are suggested to Fort Calhoun Fire and Rescue or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

VISITATION Sunday 3-5pm with a Vigil Service at 5pm at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Ft. Calhoun, NE. FUNERAL MASS Monday 10 am also at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Interment Ft. Calhoun Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to Ft. Calhoun Fire and Rescue or St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
