Roy A. Zadow, 31

Services were Friday, June 21, at Lutheran Church of the Master for Roy A. Zadow, 31, of Omaha and formerly of Bloomington, Indiana and Blair. Rev. Robert B. Schaff officiated. A private family internment followed the services.

Roy Zadow was born February 3, 1965. He lived at Lakeland Estates in rural Blair during most of his youth. He was a 1983 graduate of Blair High School.

He attended Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, for five years. He was part of the University’s Coop program and belonged to Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity.

After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering, he worked for the Naval Weapons Support Center in Crane, Indiana, for 10 years.

He was building a replica of a 1966 Cobra sports car prior to his death.

He had cancer (Hodgkin’s Disease) first when he was nine years old and then again at age 16. He began a battle against fibrosis of the lungs when he was 20. That eventually led to bronchiectasis and the need for a double lung transplant. He was to leave July for St. Louis where the transplant was expected late this year. He had been on the transplant list since August of 1995.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Martha Kallio and Thomas and Edna Zadow.

He is survived by his mother, Laura Zadow; his father and step-mother, John and Sharon Zadow; a sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Ron Jones; sister, Billie Jo Zadow; brother, Douglas Zadow; his grandfather, Lauri Kallio; a niece, Madison Jones; nephew, Aaron Jones and many aunts and uncles.

Pallbearers were Doug Zadow, Kelly Powell, Andy Kallio and Lee Blanford.

Kari Jo Johnson was the soloist. Blandina Johnson was organist.

In lieu of traditional remembrances, the family has established the Roy Zadow Memorial Fund, 6041 Oak Hills Drive, Omaha, NE 68137.

Larkin Funeral Home Southwest Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
