Lorene 'Sis' D. Matzen, 92

Lorene “Sis” D. Matzen, 92, of Bennington, died on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Bennington American Legion, 15312 S. 2nd St. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reichmuth Funeral Home in Bennington. Interment will be in the German Cemetery.

Lorene D. Christensen was born July 31, 1920, in Bennington to Charlie and Dora (Steffen) Christensen.

On March 31, 1941, she married Anton “Tony” Matzen in Blair.

Mrs. Matzen was a longtime Bennington resident and member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 266.

She enjoyed gardening and canning, and was a lifelong homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; infant son, Charles Anton; daughter, Patty Ann; and brother Chris “Bud” Christensen. She is survived by a son-in-law and his spouse, Dwight and Carolyn Hageman; granddaughters and their spouses, Karen and Wayne DePriest and Ginger Hageman; great-grandsons, Donavan DePriest and Bentley DePriest; sisters-in-law, Ruth Christensen, Katherine Koenig, Clara May Wehbein, Meta Matzen and Eunice Rasmussen; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Bennington American Legion Auxiliary Unit 266 or the Over 60 Center.
