Peter Vammen

Rev. Peter J. Vammen was born on September 13, 1892 to Jens and Anna Hoppe Vammen in Denmark.

In 1912 he immigrated to the United States and attended Dana College and the University of Southern California, and graduated from seminary school in 1927.

Rev. Vammen served The Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Lutheran Churches in Ruskin, Nebraska, West Branch, Iowa; Luverne, North Dakota; Dane Valley, Montana; Swan River, Manitoba, Canada, and in Penn Yan, New York.

After semi-retirement he served as supply pastor in the Plentywood, Montana area and was the Protestant Chaplin at the Miles City, Montana, hospital. Later he became Chaplain at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Havre, Montana for sixteen years.

Rev. Vammen was married to Olga nee Andersen who preceded him in death. In 1960 he was united in marriage to Nona Bentsen. In 1977 Rev. Vammen received a Citation from the American Lutheran Church and an Honorary Degree of Master of Divinity from Wartburg Seminary.

Rev. Vammen moved to Blair, in 1984 from Havre, Montana, where he and Nona made their home until his death on December 11, 1985, at the Good Shepherd Home.

He is survived by his wife Nona; three sons, Cletus Vammen of Orlando, Florida, Paul Vammen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, James Vammen of Beatrice; three step children, Mrs. Floyd (Anne) Nielsen of Pisgah, Iowa; Patricia Bentsen of Madagascar; David Bentsen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, one brother, Adolph Vammen, Oakes, Oklahoma and one sister Anine Andersen of Denmark.
