Norman L. Van Beek, 72

Norman L. Van Beek, 72, died at his home in rural Blair on Friday, May 6, 2005. Private memorial services have been held.

Norman Lee Van Beek was born Oct. 9, 1932, in Herman to Emerald and Lillian Van Beek. He graduated from Blair High School in 1949.

On Oct. 12, 1952, he married Karolyn Louise Schlote in Fremont. He worked in sales, trucking, logging, and farming prior to his salvage business. He loved fishing, and throughout the years, developed an unspoken, rarely seen, tender compassion for animals.

He is survived by his wife, Karolyn; daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Wendell Asp of Blair, Terri and Herb Shelton of Herman, Delores and Mike Halstead of Lusk, Wyo., Norma and Glenn Lindholm of Valparaiso; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Terri Van Beek of Blair; 11 grandchildren; sister, Betty Kollman of Springfield, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Burchardt; Betty and John Wolsmann of Blair; Vonna Jean Johnson of Bonita Springs, Fla.; brother-in-law, Dale and Estelle Schlote of Germantown, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
