Irene M. VanDeusen, 93

Irene M. VanDeusen, 93, of Fremont, died early Monday morning, July 10, 2000, at the A. J. Merrick Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 14, 2000, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Phillip Vance and lay minister Mike Meyer. Interment will follow in Memorial Cemetery.

Irene VanDeusen was born on Sept. 8, 1906 in Ragan to Leslie and Ora (Salmon) Aten. She graduated from high school in Ragan, and received her teacher’s certificate from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

On Jan. 1, 1928, she married John H. VanDeusen in Ragan. They lived on a farm near Hooper until moving into Fremont in 1969.

She taught in several schools, including Logan View in the Hooper/Uehling area, and she also taught at the Trinity Lutheran School in Fremont. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Fremont.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Donna VanDeusen of Knoxville, Tenn., a son, Jack Ward of Los Angeles, Calif., a daughter, Donna Plymate of Fremont, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Barbara Aten of Goodland, Kan., three sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Leonard Lightener of National City, Calif., Shirley and Bob Kelley of Omaha, and Doris and Bob Falk of Surprise, Ariz., and a sister, Betty Olson of Elwood.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, five brothers, and a sister.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
