#1 Pilot 27 Nov. 1912

Mrs. H. G. VanDeusen died at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, of intestinal tuberculosis, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Tucker, who live on the bottom north of town. She contracted the disease some four years ago but she fought it bravely and did her work in the family until about two months ago when she went to the Blair hospital for treatment. She seemed to improve for a time but after she left the hospital she failed rapidly, as is always the case in the latter end of this disease. She became unconscious at about 9:30 Saturday morning but her wonderful vitality kept her body alive until 2 o’clock Monday without any nourishment. The end was peaceful and scarcely perceptible. The funeral will be held at the Methodist church in this city at 10 o’clock today, and interment made in the Blair cemetery where two little babies are buried. Miss May Tucker was born near Tekamah March 29th, 1881. Her parents moved on to the N. Tarleton farm, west of town, where she met and was married to H. G. VanDeusen, the editor’s brother, in Sept., 1899. They have since made their home on one of the old farms except for a year or so spent in Scottsbluff, Neb. and a year in this city. Besides the husband she leaves five children, Raymond, Ella, John, Ruth and William, the oldest being 12 and the youngest 4 years of age. Besides her parents she also leaves three sisters, Mrs. T. N. Baldwin, of Herman, Mrs. Ray Johnson of Walthill and Mrs. John Warner, who lives with her parents, and one brother, Harry, who lives on a farm near his father’s place. Wife, mother, daughter and sister will be greatly missed, especially in the home where five young children are now left motherless.
