Death of Pioneer

Gottlieb Westerbeck, a pioneer citizen of Fontanelle, died on Nov. 8, from pneumonia. He had just returned from a visit to a son in Iowa, where he was taken ill and lived but a few days.

Mr. Westerbeck was born in Westphalia, Germany, Dec. 27, 1836; he came to America in 1852 and settled in Illinois. He came to Fontanelle in 1870 and engaged in the carpenter trade, but for thirty-one years he has been blind.

He leaves a wife and several children as well as many friends to mourn his demise.
