Ernest A. Westergaard, 95

Former Arlington resident Ernest A. Westergaard, 95, of Kent, Wash., died Sept. 28, 2003, in Olympia, Wash.

A memorial service was held Friday, Oct. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Orum. Interment was in the Orum Cemetery.

Ernest A. Westergaard was born Sept. 7, 1908, in Denmark. He lived in Blair prior to moving to Arlington, where he lived from 1946 to 1969. He operated a produce station in Arlington, then sold furniture and later worked as a carpenter until his retirement in 1976. He moved to Bellevue, Wash., in 1969, and later moved to Kent.

Mr. Westergaard served in the U.S. Army Calvary prior to World War II.

He was a past master of the Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 52 A.F. & A.M. of Arlington.

On Feb. 2, 1938, he married Opal M. Hansen at Story City, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1987.

He is survived by two daughters, Erna J. Eley of Ocean Shores, Wash., and Donna B. Westergaard of Seattle; sister, Vera Lehman of Rockford, Ill., five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent was in charge of arrangements.
