Guy Van De Venter, 77

Funeral services for Guy Van De Venter, who died January 23, 1990 in Commerce City after being hospitalized for several weeks, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, at the First Lutheran Church in Blair, with Rev. J. David Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Guy Van De Venter was born on April 8, 1912, in Mounds City, Missouri to Archibald and Mary Harrison Van De Venter. He married Mildred Pauline Davis in LeMars, Iowa in 1937. They resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Tekamah and Blair, Nebraska, before moving to Commerce City, Colorado in 1955.

As a profession, Guy was an over-the-road truck driver. He retired in the early 1960’s and spent the last of his days being full-time husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and, as a hobby, made knives, some of which he sold and others he gave away.

Guy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mildred and one sister, Mabel Rasmussen.

He is survived by three children, Gerald Van De Venter and David Van De Venter of Commerce City, Colorado and Hazel Coppedge, Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lona Higgins, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Frances Lesneiski, Lansing, Michigan and Thelma Cushman, Cloverdale, California; two brothers, Clarence of Denver, Colorado and Orville of Oceanside, California.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
