Vernon Van Horn was born in Herman November 6, 1909 to James and Claudina Van Horn. He graduated from Herman High school in 1927.

He attended the University of Nebraska and graduated as a doctor of dentistry. He had a private practice in Broken Bow, Nebraska following graduation.

He joined the Coast Guard in 1943 and served two years, then joined the U.S. Public Health Department.

He had lived in Vancouver the past 16 years.

He married Marge Hazard in April, 1959.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Hazard and a sister, Evelyn.

He is survived by his wife, Marge, Vancouver; three sons, Bob of Omaha, Jim of Pasadena, California and Lloyd Hazard of Imperial and formerly of Blair; two daughters, Phyllis Jones of Vancouver and formerly of Blair and Jeannie Kistaites of Omaha; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
