Courier 11 March 1897

Chris Van Huss and Wm. Banks, Jr., lived on the Hufendick farm just north of Kennard and last Sunday Chris, who has been afflicted with hernia for years, became suddenly worse. He done nothing for it and neither was a physician called. He continued to grow worse and on Tuesday evening drove over to his father’s place, renters of the A. O. Pound farm, about four miles west of Blair, and this only aggravated the case. Dr. Pruner was then sent for but it was too late and he died about five o’clock Wednesday morning. The funeral will occur at 2 o’clock today at Kennard and will be conducted by Rev. Gearhart from the Methodist church. Interment will be made in the Kennard cemetery. Chris was a son of J. M. Van Huss, who has lived on the Pound farm for a number of years. He was the youngest of three sons, William and Samuel surviving. He was 22 years old and of a genial and pleasant disposition. His death is a hard blow to the family and many friends extend their sympathy to each of them in their affliction.
