Sarah (Rosenbalm) Van Huss

Mrs. Sarah Van Huss, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Rutledge, in this city, where she was visiting when taken sick, at 10:10 last Friday morning of old age, she being in her 89th year. The body was taken to the home of her son, William Van Huss, with whom she had made her home mostly since the death of her husband January 23, 1903, where the funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. H. Underwood at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon. There was a large attendance of neighbors and friends and the floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Burial was in the Kennard cemetery by the side of her husband and son, Chris.

Sarah Rosenbalm was born at Ocola, Washington county, Va., September 16th, 1835, while old Andrew Jackson was president of these United States. She grew to womanhood in that county and was married to John M. Van Huss Sept. 15th, 1855. Eight children were born to them but three of whom are now living, Mrs. Wm. Rutledge and William Van Huss of this city, and Sam Van Huss, of Hydro, Okla. She leaves, also 17 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, Wilma Lois, daughter of Mrs. Gertrude Petit Bates, and Donald, son of Lillie Petit Noel, both of Kennard.

Mr. and Mrs. Van Huss came west in 1883 and lived first near Arlington, after moving onto the A. Pound farm in the Brewster school district, where Mr. Van Huss died. The three children living were present when she died and were here for the funeral service. The six pallbearers were all grandsons. They were Robt. and Peter Petit, Chas. Bates, Thos. and Wm. J. Thompson.

Mrs. Sarah Van Huss

Mrs. Sarah Van Huss died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Rutledge on last Friday morning.

Since the death of her husband in 1903 she has made her home with her son, Mr. Wm. Van Huss and it was to his home that the body was taken and it was there that the funeral services were held on Sunday at 2 P.M. in the precese of a large number of neighbors and friends.

Interment was made in the Kennard cemetery beside her husband.

Deceased was born in Virginia September 16, 1834 and it was there that she grew to womanhood.

September 15th, Sarah Rosenbalm was married to John M. Van Huss and to them eight children were born, three of whom are still living; Mrs. Wm. Rutledge and Mr. Wm. Van Huss of this city and Sam Van Huss, of Hydro, Oklahoma.

At the time of her death the three children were present. The Enterprise extends its sympathies to the bereaved relatives.

Note: Sarah is buried in the Kennard Cemetery, Blk 1 Lot 20 Sp 5.
