Died on 9/25/1916

Pilot 27 Sept. 1916

Louis Post Van Liew died at his home in this city at 3 o’clock Monday afternoon of cancer of the stomach, from which he had been suffering since May 10th. He had been in bed about three weeks. The end came rather suddenly for he was unable to take any nourishment. The funeral will be conducted from the house at 2 o’clock today by Rev. C. M. Foreman. Burial will be in the Blair cemetery by the side of his wife, who died three years ago Dec. 6th. Deceased was born in Lodi, Seneca county, New York, Sept. 18th, 1846, and was therefore just 70 years of age Monday of last week. He was married to Miss Jennie E. Hawley at Scipioville, N. Y., in 1879 and they came to this county shortly thereafter, having made their home here ever since. Mr. Van Liew was a carpenter by trade and was known as a careful and finished workman. He was more than that, he was a real gentleman, kindly, courteous and affable at all times. All of which made an ideal husband, father, citizen and neighbor. One son, Ross, of this city, and two daughters, Miss Maud, who lived at home, and Mrs. Dixon, of Los Angeles, Calif., survive him.
