Calhoun Youth Succumbs At 15

Robert Vaughan, Ft. Calhoun High School Student Buried Saturday

In failing health the past year and confined to his bed for a week, Robert Vaughan, 15-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Vaughan of Fort Calhoun, died at the Vaughan home there last Thursday morning. He was a Fort Calhoun high school sophomore.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Calhoun Presbyterian church, the Rev. Thomas Sandlin, pastor, officiating, and interment followed in Fort Calhoun cemetery.

Robert, who was born December 15, 1925, is survived, besides his parents, by a brother, Oscar Karn, of Omaha; and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Carey of Fort Calhoun; Mrs. Neil McMillan of Story City, Iowa, and Miss Irene Karn of Blair.

Robert Vaughan Dead

Robert, 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Vaughan, passed away about 9 o’clock this morning at his home. He had been confined to bed for ten days with a heart affliction, an ailment from which he had suffered for the past two years, although he attended school the year just closed. He was a fine, gentlemanly boy and his untimely death is a shock not only to his immediate family but to the whole community.

He is survived by his parents, and three sisters, Mrs. Louise Carey, Miss Irene Karn and Mrs. Neil McMillan, and one brother, Oscar Karn.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.

Funeral of Robert Vaughan

The funeral services for Robert Vaughan, who passed away on June 19 at the age of 15 years and six months, were held in the Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon, the church being filled with friends of this lovable boy. Rev. Thos. Sandlin gave a message of comfort to the bereaved parents, relatives and friends, Miss Edith Neale sang, and representatives of the Juvenile Circle of the Royal Neighbors Lodge of Blair, of which Robert was a member, also participated in the service. The Madsen twin boys of Blair beautifully sang “In the Garden.” The pallbearers were Albert Suverkrubbe, Jack Rathjen, Harley Kruse, Glen Lund, Bill Cox and Junior Kohlmeier.

Burial was in the Ft. Calhoun cemetery.
