Alfred J. Latwaitis Jr., 70, of Blair, died Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Services are pending.

He is survived by his wife, Anita “Arlene” of Blair; son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Cindy Latwaitis of Blair; daughter, Holly Latwaitis and Tim Smith of Blair; grandchildren, Hope, DJ, Alita Taylor and Dylan; sisters and brother-in-law, Diane “Dee”and Michael Flynn of Palmer and Donna Latwaitis of Blair; sister-in-law, Carolyn Latwaitis of Long Island, N.Y.; many cousins, nieces, nephews, chosen family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred Latwaitis Sr. and Helen (Aldrich) Latwaitis; brother, Robert Latwaitis; and mother-in-law, Anita “Ann” Higgins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred J. 'Al' Latwaitis, 70

Alfred J. Latwaitis Jr., 70, of Blair, died Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, November 24, at Country Bible Church. Dessert will follow the service. There is no graveside service.

Alfred "Al" Jennings Latwaitis Jr. was born November 17, 1942, in Queens, N.Y., to Alfred and Helen (Aldrich) Latwaitis.

He attended Grand Avenue Elementary School in South Hempstead and graduated from Uniondale High School in New York.

He worked several years for his father at his machine shop, then married Anita "Arlene" Higgins in 1963.

He started his own trophy business and was involved with the Masons.

In 1978, the family moved from New York to Nebraska. He worked as a supervisor at his father’s company, DeSoto Engineering, then later went on to do computer programming for Wolff’s Jewelry, Cheqnet, and the Washington and Dodge County Courts.

In 1982, he started his own business, MicroSmart, providing computer program design, and later expanded to printing and stationery services for Blair, Omaha, and the surrounding area. He was a past president of the Blair Eagles for two terms and chaplin for the Eagles for many years. He also oversaw the planning and construction of the new Eagles facility and strongly believed in its mission.

His hobbies were trains, computers, designing, woodworking, and most of all family, including many chosen members he welcomed with opened arms. After retirement, he did handyman and construction projects, including a complete renovation of a house in Modale, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anita "Arlene" Latwaitis; son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Candy Latwaitis of Blair; daughter, Holly Latwaitis and Tim Smith of Blair; grandchildren Hope, DJ, Alita, Taylor, and Dylan; sisters and brother-in-law, Diane "Dee" and Michael Flynn of Palmer and Donna Latwaitis of Blair; sister-in-law, Carolyn Latwaitis of Bohemia, N.Y.; brother-in-law and spouse, Dave and Ceil Higgins of Arvada, Colo.; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and chosen family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Helen (Aldrich) Latwaitis; brother, Robert Latwaitis; and mother-in-law, Anita "Ann" Higgins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the family.
