James Franklin Wheeler, 75

James F. Wheeler, age 75, of Tekamah, died on Thursday, April 27, 1989 at Omaha, Nebraska.

Jim was born on October 21, 1913 at Auburn, Nebraska to Archie C. and Gladys (Perry) Wheeler of Glenrock, Nebraska. He attended Glenrock Public Schools in southeast Nebraska prior to graduating from Auburn High School in 1932. He then continued his education for a time at Peru State Teachers College at Peru, Nebraska. From 1941 to 1945, Jim served in World War II as an Aerial and Ground Photographic Specialist for the U.S. Navy.

Jim moved to Tekamah in 1948, where he owned and operated Jim Wheeler Motor Sales for 25 years. Jim married Betty L. Gorey on July 20, 1955 at Papillion, Nebraska. On July 1, 1971, Jim and Betty opened Jim Wheeler’s Steak House and Lounge, which has been in operation for the past eighteen years.

Jim has been a past member of the Lions Club of Tekamah, the Eagles Club of West Point, a lifetime member of both the Tekamah V.F.W. and American Legion Posts, and a present member of the Tekamah Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife, Betty L. Wheeler of Tekamah; three daughters: Jackie Wheeler of New York, New York, Jan Raver of Tekamah, and Nancy Nelson of Aurora, Colorado; one son, James F. Wheeler of Lincoln; five grandsons: Quintin L. Raver, James A. and William R. Wheeler, and Rick E. and Jeffrey G. Nelson; three sisters: Louise Skeen and Phyllis (Babe) Ingersol of Auburn, and Mary Jane Paus of West Point; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were May 1, 1989 at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with Rev. Thomas E. Robson officiating. Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the Tekamah V.F.W. and American Legion Posts.
