Wayne Whitaker, 56

Services for Wayne “Skip”, 56 of Valley, who died May 27, 1996 at Veterans Hospital in Omaha, were Wednesday, May 29 at Reichmuth Funeral Home. Rev. Russ Tompkins officiated. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Wayne Whitaker was born November 10, 1939 in Omaha to Ward and Gladys Whitaker. He grew up on a farm.

He played trumpet in the Douglas County 4-H Marching Band for five or six years.

He graduated from Valley High School in 1957 and went into the U.S. Air Force. He served four years and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict.

After leaving the Air Force, he took over and helped in the family dry cleaning business from 1961 to the mid-1970s. He then worked in the carpeting and upholstery business and later did police work in both Valley and Elkhorn. The last few years he was interested in computer programming and had worked with computers for several years.

He was a member of both DeMolay and the Masons. He attended the United Methodist Church in Valley.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ward.

He is survived by his mother, Gladys, Valley; a brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Ellen Whitaker, Blair and a niece, Kirsten Whitaker of Blair.

Pallbearers were Craig Ditzen, Dean Flanagan, Vern Lemaster, Don Offenbacker, Frank Secora and Don Shelton.
