Wilma J. Smith, 77

Wilma J. Smith, 77, died Sunday, November 25, 2012, at her home in Craig.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at the United Methodist Church in Craig. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn.

Wilma Jean Brittain was born January 8, 1935, in Tabor, Iowa, to Elmer and Gertie (Hatcher) Brittain.

She attended school in Treynor, Iowa, where she graduated in 1954.

On September 10, 1955, she married Charles Chester Smith in Glenwood, Iowa. The family lived in Bennington and Waterloo before moving to Craig in 1971.

Wilma worked for Memorial Community Hospital in Blair and Home Health for approximately 35 years. She spent most of her life caring for others as a nurse's aide and hospice volunteer.

She was a member of the Craig Foundation and the VFW Auxiliary in Craig. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their activities. She enjoyed visiting and having coffee with her fellow “Library Board” friends. She also enjoyed embroidering and quilting. Wilma had an extensive angel collection.

Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Smith and Mark and Michelle Smith, all of Craig; brother, Delbert Brittain of Glenwood; four grandsons; many nieces, nephews, family members and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; and daughter, Sherry.
