Ruth Mary Whitney, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997 at the Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Mo.

Services will be Sept. 4 at the Walker-Nadler Funeral Home in Lexington.

Whitney was born April 10, 1911, at Montpelier, Idaho to Arthur James and Lulu Hummel Jobson. She was a graduate of Northeast State Teachers College in Kirksville, Mo., and was a teacher for many years. On June 20, 1936, she married Glen Whitney at her parents’ home in Marceline, Mo.

She was a 53-year member of the Lexington United Methodist Church and Esther Circle. She was also a member of the Lafayette County Historical Society, the Lexington Garden Club, the Retired Teachers of Missouri, The Daughters of the American Revolution and Chapter HX of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Survivors are her husband, Glen; her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Hugh Hunt of Blair; her son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Martha Whitney of Palo Alto, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; her sister and brother-in-law, Grayce and Bob Pudden of Manhattan, Kan.
