Marie H. Kelly, 97

Marie H. Kelly, 97, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 30, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fort Calhoun. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Church. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Blair.

Marie H. Prochnow was born August 21, 1915, in rural Fort Calhoun to August J. and Minnie H. (Kufahl) Prochnow.

She grew up in rural Fort Calhoun and graduated from Fort Calhoun High School. She attended Dana College and received her teaching certificate in 1935.

On May 21, 1941, she married John C. Kelly.

The couple had one daughter, Dorothy, and raised two nephews, John and Steve Prochnow.

She worked as an elementary teacher. She taught first through eighth grades at Riverview School for more than two years and at Green School for four years.

She volunteered for several years at a thrift store in Omaha whose proceeds went to the Uta Halee Home for Girls.

Mrs. Kelly enjoyed baking, especially breads, sweet rolls, and cherry, apple and peach pies. She was well known for her strawberry and peach jams.

Gardening was also near and dear to her and she loved playing cards.

She was always very active in her grandchildren’s lives and events.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy M. and Donald Tripp Jr. of Omaha; grandchildren, Anne Kaslon and her husband Rob, Deb Tripp, and Katie Tripp; great-grandchildren, Ben Kaslon and Matthew Kaslon; nephews, Johnny Prochnow and Steve Prochnow.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Kelly; and brothers, Fred Prochnow, Bill Prochnow and Henry Prochnow.

Memorials may be directed to the American Health Assistance Foundation.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
