Mary Anderson Vig, 96

Mary H. Anderson Vig, 96, died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home after a brief stay there.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Blair Cemetery with memorial services at 11 a.m. that day at First Lutheran Church.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vig was born in Blair Sept. 12, 1901, to Theodore and Julia Beck Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church. A life-long resident of Blair, she graduated from Blair High School in 1919. She first taught country school in Washington County and then attended Dana College. In 1923, she began her long teaching career in the Blair Elementary School system, teaching at West School from 1923 to 1947 and then from 1956 until her retirement in 1968. On June 29, 1946, she married Alfred Clarence “Clown” Vig, a former Blair mayor, after his return from World War II service with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.

She was active in her church and as a volunteer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home.

Survivors are her son, Ronald Vig of rural Blair; her grandson, Jason; a sister-in-law, Vi Anderson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1956; her parents and a brother, James.
