Howard B. Widener

Services for Howard B. Widener, age 85 of Tekamah, Nebraska who died Friday, March 5 at the Tekamah Nursing Center were held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1993 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. Burial was in the Blair Cemetery.

Howard B. Widener was born August 31, 1907 in Kennard, Nebraska to Robert and Christina Sorensen Widener. He spent his early years in the Blair and Herman area, attending the Thone and Blair schools.

Following school he was employed as a Caterpillar operator doing highway construction throughout Washington County. During the 1920s he farmed with his father in Burt and Washington County.

He married Alma Swanson June 30, 1940 in Kennard. In 1944, a move was made to a farm west of Herman, where the family resided until his retirement to Tekamah in 1972. During those farming years, he did custom corn shelling and hay baling for 20 years, knowing practically every farmer in Washington and Burt Counties.

He is survived by his wife, Alma; children, Robert of Lyons and Mary Snow and Kenneth and wife Shari, all of Tekamah; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and sister, Ruth Jahnel of Tekamah.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
