Emma Marie Erikson, 88

Funeral services were Monday, November 13, at First Lutheran Church in Blair for Emma Marie Buchardt Erikson, who died November 10, 1989, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Burial was in the Herman Cemetery.

Emma Marie Buchardt Erikson was born near Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, on March 12, 1901, to William and Sine Christiansen Buchardt. She was baptized and confirmed at the Orum Lutheran Church at an early age.

On September 14, 1921, she married Carl J. Erikson of Herman. To this union one daughter, Evelyn was born.

The couple farmed near Herman and Craig until Mr. Erikson died in 1955.

In 1956, Emma moved to Blair and started working as head cook at the new Blair Hospital. She worked faithfully at this job for 22 years.

She became a member of the First Lutheran Church in Blair in 1956. After retiring she became active in church activities. She was a member of the Happy Quilters group which she enjoyed very much. She enjoyed being with all her lady friends and doing things with them. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents, a step-father and three brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn (Mrs. John F. Eriksen) of Herman; three grandchildren, Phyllis (Mrs. Roger) Barber of Herman, Susan (Mrs. Gerald) Litwak of Bellevue, and John C. Eriksen of Tekamah; seven great-grandchildren; a niece, Phyllis (Mrs. William) Steil; and her two sons, Raymond and Joe Steil and six great-grandchildren, all of Sioux City, Iowa; many other nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Pallbearers were Roger Barber, John Eriksen, Kevin Jackson, Gerald Litwak, Joe Steil and Raymond Steil.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
