Services for Gordon Vinton, 78 of Blair who died May 23, 1992 at Good Shepherd Home were held Tuesday, May 26 at First United Methodist Church in Blair. Burial was in Blair Cemetery.

Gordon Eckert Vinton was born at Glenwood, Iowa April 10, 1914 to Ralph and Zula Eckert Vinton. IN 1929 he moved to Blair with his family where his father established the Vinton Motor Company.

After his graduation from Blair High School in 1932, he began working for his father, managing the Chevrolet dealership in Tekamah from 1938-1942. He then returned to Blair and joined his father and brother in what became R. E. Vinton & Sons Chevrolet Dealership. He retired in 1982 after having been in business for 50 years.

On September 22, 1938 he married Jean Wilson. She preceded him in death in 1983.

He married Darlene Norgaard of Harlan, Iowa. She died in 1990.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Church Board and a charter member of Blair Lions Club honored for 35 years perfect attendance in 1976. He served three terms on the board of directors of Memorial Community Hospital; was a long-time member of Blair Volunteer Fire Department, serving as rescue captain. He served on the Blair City Council, was past member of Blair Country Club board of directors and member of SAR. In 1978, he was co-recipient of Dana College Community Service Award, and in 1991 was co-recipient of the Blair Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Jean and Darlene, an infant brother and nephew, Robert Vinton.

Surviving him in death are his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Merri Vinton, Blair; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Russell Randall, Robinson, Illinois and Susan and Don Stodola, Lawrenceville, Illinois; step-son, John Norgaard, Carroll, Iowa; step-daughter, Noreen McCaustland, Monticello, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kent Randall, Beth Randall, Amy Stodola, Brandy Stodola, Chris Vinton and Rebecca Vinton; one brother, Keith Vinton of Blair, Nebraska, and one nephew, Jeff Vinton.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
