Ernest W. Vogt, 70

Services for Ernest W. Vogt, 70 of Arlington, who died February 2, 1992 at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 5 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Arlington. Rev. Michael L. Rogers will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday, February 3 and from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday, February 4.

Ernest W. Vogt was born April 21, 1921, on a farm near Arlington to John and Anna Stork Vogt. He lived his entire life in the Arlington area and graduated from Arlington High School in 1939.

He farmed during his entire life in the Arlington area. He was also employed as a program supervisor for the Washington County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation service for 40 years.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the 96th Division of the United States Army from October 20, 1942 to February 15, 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the church choir, Lutheran Laymen’s League and served as a church elder. He was also a member of Arlington VFW Post No. 8332, the Arlington American Legion Post No. 71 and had served as post commander of both posts and was chairman of the Arlington Rural Fire District Board for 43 years.

He married Verna L. Toebben July 18, 1975 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Vogt and Helen Sperling and his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Verna; a step-son and his wife, Robert and Donna Toebben of Blair; a step-daughter, Karen (Mrs. Robert) Biache of Ozark, Missouri; two brothers, Rupert Vogt of Arlington and Harris Vogt of Nickerson; three sisters, Edna Vogt, Mildred Vogt and Ann Marie (Mrs. Donald) Lottman, all of Arlington; five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Pallbearers will be Ray Jensen, Alfred Stranghoener, Lawrence Laaker, Henry Wilkening, Leo Ray Rosenkilde and Don Sperling.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Bates, Norman Stork, Harlan Stork, Harvey Hilgenkamp, Boyd Gieselmann and Richard Holtman.

Moser Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

ARLINGTON-Ernest W. Vogt, 70, of Arlington died Sunday, Feb., 1992, at Memorial Hospital of Dodge County in Fremont. He was a retired farmer.

Mr. Vogt was born April 21, 1921, on a farm near Arlington. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1939. He served with the U.S. Army’s 96th Division October 1942 to February 1946 during World War II in the Asian-Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime farmer and resident of the Arlington area. He was also program supervisor for the Washington County Agriculture Soil Conservation Service for 40 years.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, the church choir, the Lutheran Layman’s League, was a church elder, member of Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 8332, Arlington American Legion Post No. 71, was a past commander of both posts, and was chairman of the Arlington Rural Fire District for 43 years.

Other survivors include a step-son, Robert Toebben of Blair; a step-daughter, Karen (Mrs. Robert) Biache of Ozark, Mo.; two brothers, Rupert of Arlington and Harris of Nickerson; three sisters, Edna Vogt, Mildred Vogt and Ann Marie Lottman, all of Arlington.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate. Visitation will be 6-9 tonight and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Arlington VFW Post No. 83332 and American Legion Post No. 71 at St. Paul’s Cemetery.
