Mildred E. Vogt died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at her home in Arlington.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with interment in the St. Paul Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by members of VFW Post No. 8332 and American Legion Post No. 71, both of Arlington.

Visitation began Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home, but will also be held one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Mildred E. Vogt was born June 22, 1918, in Arlington to John and Anna (Stork) Vogt. She grew up at Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School.

She received her nursing credentials from the Municipal University of Omaha (now known as the University of Nebraska at Omaha) and her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

She moved to Omaha in 1936 and lived there until entering the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She served from March 2, 1943, until April 9, 1946, in England, Scotland, and the United States. She held the rank of First Lieutenant.

After her discharge from the service, she returned to Omaha, then moved to Grand Island in 1957. She was employed at the VA Hospital in Grand Island until her retirement, and she moved back to Arlington in 1979. She then worked in private duty nursing for friends and family.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church; the American Legion Post No. 71 of Arlington; the American Nurse Association; and the University of Nebraska Alumni Association.

She is survived by her brother, Rupert Vogt; a sister, Edna Vogt; and two sisters-in-law, Verna Vogt and Alice Vogt, all of Arlington; and 13 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest and Harris Vogt; three sisters, Ruth Vogt, Helen Sperling and Ann Marie Lottman, and two nephews.

Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
