Amelia Volk, 97

Funeral services were Wednesday, June 13 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Nebraska for Amelia Volk, 97 of Battle Creek who died June 10, 1990 at a Norfolk Nursing Home. Rev. Glenn Baumann officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Amelia Volk was born April 7, 1893 to Claus and Bertha Sinjen Schmidt at Madison, Nebraska. She attended school northwest of Madison.

She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and formerly of St. Peters Lutheran Church south of Battle Creek where she was a charter member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a charter member of the Lutheran Community Hospital Guild at Norfolk and of the Madison County Extension Club.

She married John C. Volk on September 30, 1914 at Immanuel Lutheran Church at Madison.

They lived and farmed six miles south of Battle Creek until she moved into Battle Creek in 1958.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on August 10, 1947; four brothers, four sisters and her parents.

She is survived by sons, John Volk and James Volk, Battle Creek; Kenneth Volk, Omaha; and Robert Volk, Arlington; daughters, Mrs. Helen Grant of Battle Creek and Elizabeth (Mrs. Don) Bierman of Meadow Grove, Nebraska; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Richard Grant, John H. Volk, Meredith Volk, Van Volk, Tim Volk, Rex Volk, Max Volk, Mark Bierman, Lyndon Bierman, Bryan Bierman, Joel Bierman, J. D. Volk, Tom Volk, Jay Volk and Clark Volk.

Tim Volk was soloist and the choir sang a hymn. Mrs. Edwin Meyer was organist.

Steffen Mortuary in Battle Creek, Nebraska, was in charge of arrangements for the services.
