Walter “Wally” Vopnford, 72

Services were Saturday, March 9 in Mount Vernon, Washington for Walter “Wally” Vopnford, 72 of Mount Vernon, Washington who died March 5, 1991 after a long illness.

He and his wife, Sigrid were married March 6, 1942. In 1946, they bought a summer resort in Pt. Roberts, Washington and attended Western Washington University where they both graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education.

They moved to Mt. Vernon in 1957 where he was a teacher. Later, he was a principal and superintendent of Conway Schools, until his retirement in 1981.

He was a member of the Moose and Elks and was also active in fund raising for the United Way. He was also a member of the Anacords Male Barbershop Chorus for years.

He is survived by his wife, Sigrid; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Patti Vopnford and a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Stephen Riley, all of Pt. Roberts; and, from Blair, a son and daughter-in-law, David and Barbara Vopnford; grandchildren, David Vopnford, Jr. and his wife, Terri Ken Vopnford, Chris Vopnford and his wife, Cyndi; Tracy Vopnford, Kelda Vopnford and Leif Vopnford and great-grandchildren, Kenny Vopnford, Erika Vopnford, Keila Vopnford, Shelbi Vopnford and Adrian Vopnford.
