Curtis E. Petersen, 83

Curtis E. Petersen, 83, of Herman, died on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at Crowell Home in Blair. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, December 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.

Curtis E. Petersen was born February 25, 1929, in Waterloo to Peter A. and Gertrude C. (Penke) Petersen. He was raised in Waterloo until the age of 13 when the family moved to Herman. He attended school in Herman and then went to work full time on the family farm, growing grain and raising hogs. He also worked as a carpenter during the wintertime.

On February 9, 1963, he married Jean Povondra of Omaha at the Assumption Church in Omaha. After their wedding they made their home on the family farm in Herman.

The couple enjoyed traveling to different communities for polka dances. He especially enjoyed spending quality time with all of his family.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Shelle Petersen of Herman; and by grandsons, Bryan, Tyler and Dylan Petersen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; and sisters, Betty Merryweather and LeiLany Rasmussen.

Memorials may be directed to the Herman Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad or Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair is in charge of arrangements.
