George M. Wilson, 93

George M. Wilson, 93, of Blair died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion.

Services will be Thursday, December 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Blair. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

George Maurice Wilson was born May 31, 1919, near Hugo, Colo., to George H. and Abbie (Zigler) Wilson. He was the third of four children from that marriage.

His mother died in 1924. His father eventually married Lois Luella Mock and they added another 12 children to the family.

He attended rural grade school near Aurora from first through mid-third grades. He completed his school years in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 1937.

He attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln where he was a member of the Crescent Fraternity. He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1942.

On December 21, 1946, he married Marilyn Josephine Anderson.

He went on to earn his master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1951.

He also did postgraduate work at several schools including the University of Colorado, Kearney State College, the University of South Dakota, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Creighton University.

Mr. Wilson served his country in the Army Air Corps and then the U.S. Army where he was a member of the 90th Chemical Mortar Battalion.

During his teaching career, he taught chemistry, physics and math at Schuyler from 1946 to 1956. From 1956 to 1963, he served as high school principal in Central City.

He completed his teaching career in Blair and taught chemistry and physics from 1963 until his retirement in 1985.

After his retirement, he worked part time for the Harrisons at the Coast to Coast hardware store from 1986 until 2000.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, lapidary work, gardening and watching his grandchildren grow up.

Mr. Wilson was active in the Blair community and served on the Blair Park Board and in Kiwanis.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christine Wilson of Papillion; five grandchildren, Matthew Wilson, Erin Schnase, Cassandra Wilson, Kylee Wilson and Dallas Wilson; eight great-grandchildren, Natalie Wilson, Kayla Sorenson, Tyler Wilson, Lanie Wilson, Samuel Wilson, Camden Wilson, Tate Wilson and Dieghton Jones III; brothers, Robert of Omaha, Ronald and Gerald of Aurora, James of Lincoln and John of Central City; sisters, Luella Wieczorek and Charlotte Monson of Grand Island, Shirley Wieczorek of Aurora, Connie May of Hastings and Linda Prickett of McCook; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn J. Wilson.
