James L. Christensen, 87

James L. Christensen, 87, of Glenwood, Iowa, formerly of Blair, died on Nov. 24, 2012, in Glenwood, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Jan. 5, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood, Iowa. Internment will be in the Kennard Cemetery following the service in Blair.

James Lyle Christensen was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Blair to Niels Emil and Carrie Augusta (Madzen) Christensen. He spent his childhood in Blair and Elkhorn. He graduated from high school in 1943.

He faithfully served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW in Sundance, Wyo.

On Dec. 2, 1949, he married Mildred Jean Labs.

He loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair prior to moving to Glenwood.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Jacque and Dr. Darcey Butts of Glenwood, Iowa; two grandsons; siblings, Leona Thone of Blair and Milo Christensen of Blair; nieces and nephews; extended relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; and daughter, Jane.

Memorials may be directed to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Glenwood Senior Center.
