Clarence H. Wilkening, 95

Clarence H. Wilkening, 95, of Fremont, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at the A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 17, at Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle with the Rev. Jane Denison officiating. Interment was in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery.

Clarence H. “Kelly” Wilkening was born April 17, 1909, on the farm north of Arlington to William and Lenora (Scheer) Wilkening. He attended school in Fontanelle.

He farmed all his working years in the Fontanelle area. He also worked for the Washington County ASCS office for 20 years.

He was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle, where he had served on the church council for a number of years. He also served on the Telbasta School Board, and had been a member of the Fremont Eagles Aerie No. 200.

On Sept. 22, 1937, he married Pearl Strenger. The couple moved to Fremont in 1976.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Rosie and Travis Nelson and Marilyn and Wayne Wagner, all of Fremont; four grandchildren and their spouses; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Niebaum of Fremont; sister-in-law, Dorothy Wilkening of Arlington; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl, in 1989, and a brother, Alvin.

Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont was in charge of arrangements.
