Lenora Wilkening Is Buried

Services were held Tuesday, September 27, at Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle for Mrs. Lenora Wilkening, 98, who died September 24, 1983, at Arbor Manor in Fremont.

The Rev. C. VanderStoep officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Lenora Wilkening was born March 5, 1885, to Henry and Lena Heidbrink Scheer at Fontanelle, Nebraska. She lived in that area all of her life.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle. She also attended St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Fremont.

She married William Wilkening on February 27, 1907. They farmed north of Arlington. After the death of her husband she moved into Fremont.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in February, 1954, and a son Alvin.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Aaron (Helen) Niebaum of Fremont; a son, Clarence ‘Kelly’ Wilkening of Fremont; and a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Wilkening, of Arlington. Eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emma Scheer of Arbor Mannor, Fremont, also survive her.

Pallbearers were Marlin Greunke, Gary Niebaum, Roger Niebaum, Travis Nelson, Robert Toebben, Wayne Wagner and Richard Wittmann.

Memorials may be given to her church.

Ludvigsen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Lenora Wilkening, nee Scheer, was born to Henry and Lena Scheer on March 5, 1885. She departed this life on September 24, 1983 at the age of 98 years, 6 months and 18 days.

She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church, east of Winslow.

She married William Wilkening on February 27, 1907. They farmed north of Arlington until Mr. Wilkening’s death in February of 1954. She moved to Fremont in 1955 and had spent the past three years as a resident of Arbor Manor.

She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle. Prior to her death she was the oldest member of Salem.

She leaves to morn her death, a son, Clarence Wilkening of Fremont; one daughter, Mrs. Aaron (Helen) Niebaum of Fremont and one sister, Emma Scheer of Fremont. Also 8 grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and one son, Alvin.
