#1 Marian E. Wilkins

Services for Marian E. Wilkins, 74 of Arlington, who died August 26, 1995 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 29 at Arlington Community Church in Arlington. Rev. Lee Milligan will officiate. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery with Order of Eastern Star services conducted by members of Sarepta Chapter No. 48 of Arlington.

Marian E. Wilkins was born February 6, 1921 at Arlington. She was raised and lived all her life in the Arlington area. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1938, attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont and received her bachelor of science degree from Dana College in Blair.

She was a member of the Arlington Community Church for 37 years. She was a member and past chairperson of the Washington County Extension Home Club Council, serving as chairperson in 1962-63, president of Colby Corner Family and Community Education Club, a member and past president of the Washington County Teachers Association; a charter member of the Arlington Education Association and was inducted in it’s Hall of Fame. She was a former member and pianist for many years at the Kennard Methodist Church and was a member of several choirs and choruses. She belonged to the Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and was past Worthy Matron in No. 48 Order of Eastern Star at Arlington, serving as Worthy Matron in 1977 and as secretary from 1982 to 1994. She also served as Grand Representative of Rhode Island in Nebraska for O.E.S.

She married Robert Wilkins February 22, 1944 at Arlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lulu Spangler Menking and a sister, Dorothy M. Menking.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Charlene Wilkins of Kennard and Tom and Mardell Wilkins of Arlington; a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Norbert Cent of Columbus; eight grand children; Brianne Wilkins, Brett Wilkins, Ben Wilkins, Brittany Wilkins, Erik Wilkins, Erin Wilkins, Alicia Cent an Alana Cent.

Pallbearers will be Kent Pearson, Dr. Michael Wilkins, Dr. John Kruger, Robert Pfeiffer, Larry Spangler, Jim Kruger and Dr. Tom Anderson.

Memorials may be designated to Arlington Community Church or the Arlington Education Foundation.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington is in charge of arrangements.

ARLINGTON – Marian E. Wilkins, 74, of Arlington, died Saturday, Aug. 26, 1995, at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.

Marian Menking was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Arlington where she grew up. She lived in the Arlington area all of her life and graduated from Arlington High School in 1938. She attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont and received a bachelor of science degree from Dana College in Blair. She married Robert Wilkins Feb. 22, 1944, in Arlington. They farmed northwest of Kennard for 19 years and in the Arlington area since 1966. Marian taught in the elementary schools at Nickerson, Blair and Arlington over an 18-year period and retired from teaching in May 1978.

She was a member of Arlington Community Church, UCC, a 47-year member and past chairperson of Washington County Extension Service, a member and past president of Washington County Teachers Association, charter member of the Arlington Education Association and was inducted to its Hall of Fame. She also was a former member and pianist at Kennard Methodist Church for many years, a member of several choirs and choruses, a members of the Arlington Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, a member of Sarepta Chapter 48 Order of Eastern Star of Arlington where she served as a worthy matron in 1977, as secretary from 1982 to 1994, and as grand representative for Rhode Island in Nebraska.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Dennis of Kennard and Tom of Arlington; a daughter, Beverly (Mrs. Norbert) Cent of Columbus and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Community Church. The Rev. Lee Milligan will officiate. Visitation is in progress until 9 tonight, 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, both at Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington, and an hour before the service at the church. Order of Eastern Star graveside services will be conducted by members of Sarepta Chapter 48 of Arlington at the Arlington Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the Arlington Community Church or the Arlington Education Foundation.

Marian Wilkins, 74; Teacher, Fair Volunteer

Arlington, Neb.—Funeral services for Marian Wilkins, a longtime teacher and Nebraska State Fair volunteer, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Community Church. She was 74.

Mrs. Wilkins died of cancer Saturday at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont, said her daughter, Beverly Cent of Columbus. Mrs. Wilkins’ husband, Robert Wilkins of rural Arlington, is a 32-year State Fair Board member.

Mrs. Cent said her parents had volunteered at the State Fair together for years. Many of those years were spent working in the fair’s information booth.

Wilkins has rarely missed a fair, his daughter said, and he hopes to be up to going before this year’s fair ends Labor Day.

Mrs. Wilkins graduated from Arlington High School in 1938 and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont.

She worked as a substitute teacher while raising her three children. She took summer and night courses at Dana College in Blair to complete her bachelor of science degree when her children were in high school, Mrs. Cent said.

Mrs. Wilkins taught at elementary schools in Nickerson, Blair and Arlington.

She was a past president of the Washington County Teachers Association, a charter member of the Arlington Education Association, and a 47-year member and former chairwoman of the Washington County Extension Service.

Mrs. Wilkins was active in her church and a member of several choirs. She also was active in Eastern Star.

In addition to her husband and daughter, survivors include her sons, Dennis Wilkins of Kennard and Tom Wilkins of Arlington, and eight grandchildren.
