Sidney Wilkins, Long Time on County Maintenance Crew, Dies

Sidney Charles Wilkins, an employee of Washington County for the past thirty years, died at the Blair Hospital Sunday, December 22nd. He was 57 years of age having been born in Blair January 26, 1917.

The deceased was a motor grader operator for Washington County, a job which he had carried out efficiently for thirty years. He lived at Fontanelle and the area which he had under his care was in the Fontanelle vicinity.

Mr. Wilkins was a veteran of World War II.

He suffered a possible heart attack last week which was followed by a paralytic stroke. He had been in ill health but a short time.

He is survived by his wife, the former Jean Houdesheldt, and by a son and three daughters. The son is Donald Wilkins, of Nickerson. The daughters are Mrs. Judy Sheets, of Nickerson, Mrs. Shirley Laudenslager of Fremont and Mrs. Norma Schafersman, of Blair.

Also surviving are three sisters and a brother. The brother is Eugene Wilkins of Blair. The sisters are: Marjorie Wilkins, of Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Jake Kuhr, of Blair; and Mrs. Dorie Kopocis, of Omaha.

Funeral services were held at the Salem Lutheran Church at Fontanelle Tuesday afternoon, December 24th, the Rev. Jackson Sherwood conducting the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Campbell Mortuary.

Pallbearers were John Sorensen, Oliver Wilkinson, Rolland Long, Lauren Biffar, John McIntosh and Dick Teebken.
