Donald L. Meyer, 82

Donald L. Meyer, 82, of Tekamah died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013,at Golden Living Center in Tekamah.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, January 17, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah. Visitation will be 1 - 8 p.m., Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery.

Donald Louis Meyer was born May 8, 1930, in Burlington Junction, Mo., to Louis and Emma (Eckley) Meyer.

When he was two months old,his parents moved back to Nebraska, living in the Niobrara and West Point areas. He was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Bancroft.

On December 27, 1951, he married Reta DeLong at the Christ Lutheran Church parsonage in O’Neill. Five children were born to this union.

After working at various jobs, he settled with his family in Herman. He worked for 16 years at Hancock Farm Equipment in Blair. He was proud of the fact that at one time he knew where most of the farmers in Washington County and surrounding area lived and could repair any farm machinery.

He later worked for Kelly Ryan in Blair until he retired in 1989.

While in Herman, Mr. Meyer was a member of the Herman Rescue Squad and Fire Department.

When Mrs. Meyer retired, they sold their home in Herman and lived in their motorhome for three years before settling in Tekamah.

He was a long-time member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tekamah.

He enjoyed camping, fishing and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Reta of Tekamah; son and daughters-in-law, Merle and Leann Meyer of Tekamah and Nancy Meyer of Blair; daughters and son-in-law, Shari Widener of Tekamah, Melanie and Dick Pickell of Craig and Rita Harris of Onawa, Iowa; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ethel and Roby Hartley of Maryville, Texas and Madeline Meyer of Pearland, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Elaine Meyer of Anchorage, Alaska, Earl and Sharyn Meyer of Tomball, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Don Meyer Jr.; grandson,Tim Widener; and great-granddaughter, Alonna Moore.

Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Chatt Center and Tekamah Rescue Squad.
